                             Why Have a Landscape Design?

With the help of a designer, you can create a future picture, incorporating your needs and desires, making your yard an extension of your living space- a place you can enjoy for many years!

There are many reasons why you should have a landscape design.

A design should be customized to meet your needs and wants. Do you need shelter from the winds, protection from the sun, enhance a view (or hide one), improve drainage or maybe improve your soil structure?

Do you need a space for children to play, a parking pad for a recreational vehicle, a vegetable garden, a firepit, deck, patio, sidewalks, or a water feature? How will they all fit into your landscape and what features will you want close to one another?

You will need to think of how pedestrian traffic will flow through the yard. As your lifestyle changes, will your landscape allow transformations?

You want your landscape to compliment the style of your house, to fit in with the neighborhood, to be interesting (this also increases your property value). You want it to have a 'flow' through it (a sense that everything fits together) and you want all season appeal.

The plants that are selected should be suited to the zone, and for the conditions of the planting area. They need to be sized correctly for the location. They should compliment each other with their textures and colors, and be pleasing to you.

bulletLower maintenance can result from incorporating planting beds for trees, shrubs and perennials.

This allows groups of the same water needs to be planted together. It also promotes the use of mulch, which retains moisture; and lessens weeding, mowing and trimming.

If you utilize irrigation systems, it frees up your time from watering plants, provides water to the plants when they need it, and at the best time of day.

A designer has the knowledge to help you make the right choices. A scaled drawing lets you see what the entire landscape will look like and lets you determine what areas are most important for you to be completed first. You can install the preliminary elements first (such as underground conduits for wiring or piping, adjusting the soil grade, or amending the soil), before you assemble the deck or retaining walls. You can hire a contractor to install everything at once or you can complete it in stages, as your time and monies allow.

By taking the time to create a carefully thought out plan now, you can save yourself time and money and get the yard you really want. The possibilities are endless...
